BOOK FUN MAGAZINE - FREE READ

GIVE AWAY - BOOK CLUB ENCOUNTER FEATURING JULIE LESSMAN- w/ NEW BOOK COVER

Which do you prefer? Live, on the phone, or the on-line author chat? Why?

Oh, definitely live! I love connecting with readers in person, and I think they get a much truer picture of who I am in the flesh -- a true drama queen who is VERY emotional and yes ... maybe just a little bit crazy!

(Nora: I LOVE "LIVE" book clubs too, You get to see the authors expressing themselves. Yours expressions are priceless!! I couldn't have experienced all of you without seeing your face :D )

Please describe a book club experience that really moved you, encouraged you. Why did it touch you?

Haven't had a ton, but the one that touched me the most was definitely the book-club event at YOUR LifeWay Store in Atlanta, Nora. It was a pretty large gathering (30 something?) and I felt as if I connected with every person there, almost like the evening was anointed. Very special.

(Nora: I loved having you too. I'm sorry you visited the week my dad passed so I didn't make my own meeting. I had Gail Mundy fill in as my back up while I went to the funeral. I'm glad that I was able to catch your talk at another book club meeting. You are so much fun!! I LOVE how you shared your heart and passion for Jesus!!)

What surprised you most about doing a live book club event?

How engaged the attendees were. It seemed as if their eyes were riveted on me and every word I said, which was kind of freaky. But heck, give me an audience, and I'll talk forever ... :)

(Nora : You crack me up!! I love your honesty and how you shared your testimony!! You have a powerful one! I loved hearing how the Lord got you into writing books for Him!! Way neat ,only a story He could write!)

What surprised you about doing a phone chat with a club?

How less connected I felt with the audience. Like I wanted to touch them, but I couldn't as easily, obviously, since we were thousand of miles apart.

What surprised you most about doing the on-line book club chat?

How fast-paced it was, which was a bit unnerving at first, but then I actually got to love it.

(Nora: I agree about unnervng, when I first started I couldn't read or type fast enough to keep up with the "live" chat. I'm still getting used to all that!)

What do you like most about the book club experience?

Getting to know readers in person and how God touched them through my books.

Did you get an unexpected reaction to a book your read? Didn't expect your audience to find something on one of your books or react they way they did?

Well, not unexpected exactly, given that my books push the envelope in romantic tension, but I was a wee bit surprised at one reader who clearly put me on the defensive by stating that she did not think men were as sexual as I portrayed them. Of course, with the high rate of pornography and immorality in today's society, she has trouble convincing me of that, but I do acknowledge that maybe not all men are as driven in the realm of romance as my heroes tend to be. :)

HERE IS THE COVER OF MY NEW BOOK!! I'M SO EXCITED!!!

(Nora: OHMYGOSH Julie. I LOVE This cover. I can't wait to read about the adventure you take us on next. This cover is very eye catching)

  1. Hey Mrs, Lessman:)
I have always wanted to join a book Club!!
But we don't have any around were I live. I absolutely love books, and I always want someone to share my thoughts with.
Who knows maybe one day I'll find a way to start one of my own, and your books would be the first we would read:)

  10. Hello!
I have never belonged to a book club before, because I read sporatically. Read constantly for a while, then crochet or cross-stitch . Now, I find that I am sick, and I don't have a lot of energy, so I will be reading more.
I look foward to your books. Is there a give-away? Thanks for your time. Sharonstone452000@yahoo.com

  11. Great interview Nora & Julie. I have to say that Julie is one of my favorites when it comes to Romance. She definitely knows how to evoke passion. Awesome books!!
What a joy it was to meet her through your bookclub and I'm so thankful she spoke with our group during her visit and you were able to join us.
This is one of my favorite books to give to friends. Please enter me in the drawing.

  12. I am part of the online book club with ACFW and I love the discussions I get to take part in and hear why the author wrote it that way! It has given me more admiration for authors and the work that they do, and much less critical I think of some of their writing!
I also recently was excited to get invited to a real book club....with pretty much total strangers! It was a bit scary, but fun! I only own Julie's third book, but loved the series and would love to win the first one! Boy, that is some cover on that new book! martha(at)lclink(dot)com

Sadly I don't have any of your books, I got them from the Library, but I'm also trying to get my mom to read your books:) and I know she would love them!
But she doesn't really like reading books from the library because she doesn't like to feel rushed:) Thanks!

  14. OMIGOSH, Nora, I am SOOO sorry I haven't responded till now, but I actually did leave a few comments last week that I suspect Blogger ate!

Anyway, thank you again, my friend, for ALL of your incredible support! Meeting you and all the wonderful gals at the LifeWay bookclub and Sheryl's bookclub AND those super reader friends who came to the booksigning in Atlanta -- one of the MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS for me last year, truly.

    MAJOR HUGS,
    Julie

  15. LINDSEY!!! Always LOVE seeing your sweet name in the comments section, girl, so I cannot THANK YOU enough for your support!!

I hate to admit it, but I have never been in a book club either, although I always really wanted to be. Just so you know, if you ever DO start one, please check out my website to see how you can get a free book out of it for the leader of the book club and set up a Skype or speakerphone interview -- two things I LOVE to do! :)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  16. Hey, RACHEL, thank you SO very much for your kind comments!! I sure would love to meet you again at another book club/book signing in Atlanta, so who knows??? Maybe Nora is listening ... :)

  17. Gosh, GAIL ... "a wonderful and caring person"??? So you bought it, huh??? :)

Seriously, that's a really sweet thing to say and I'm not too sure the "wonderful" is all that accurate, but the "caring" is a fact. I don't know what it is about connecting with reader friends, but my heart CARES about them SO much that it just HAS to be God!!!

    Thanks again, Gail!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  18. CASEY!!! You have NO idea how much I wish I could do a book club/visit with some of my dearest online friends, of which you (and Lindsey and Linda in this comments section) are a huge part. Wouldn't that be a blast??? A group of crazy girls ('cause you have to be just a tiny bit "crazy" to be "crazy" about my books) jawing about our favorite books and connecting like crazy. Sigh. I hope and pray we can do that some day.

    Hugs,
    Julie

  19. Thanks, WANDA, for stopping by to read the interview and enter the drawing!! I think if you joined a book club you would discover it would probably be one of the best experiences of your life ... just a feeling I have.

Have you ever seen a movie called The Jane Austin Book Club? I just saw it last month and WOW, it made me want to sign up for one right then and there because of all the great connection you can have with like-minded women/readers.

    Hugs,
    Julie

  20. SUE and JULIA ... Thank you SO much for stopping by and good luck in the contest!

An online book group? That sounds pretty cool. The American Christian Fiction Writers group has one every month ... FOR WHICH, by the way, our very own Nora St. Laurent is an excellent moderator!! I join in when I can, and it's always a lot of fun. AND, ANYBODY can join, whether a member of ACFW or not!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  21. LINDA!!! Thank you, my friend, for your kind support and encouragment -- it means more than I can say. And I will be having TONS of giveaways for Undaunted in the months ahead, so check my website calendar every so often, okay?

  22. SHARON, I am so sorry that you've been sick, but reading certainly is a blessing when that happens ... IF you feel up to it, that is.

  23. Hey, SHERYL, trust me ... it was a real joy to meet you, too, and I hope we can do it again somewhere down the road.

  24. Hey, MARTHA, fellow ACFW'er!! Thank you for reading the series AND for your kind comment about the cover. I am pretty excited about this book, in particular, because it is not only my favorite of all four books so far, but it kicks off the final series of the passionate O'Connors, a family I am going to sorely miss when I have to come to an end. :(

    Hugs,
    Julie

  25. LINDSEY ... We are just going to have to see what we can do about getting you personal signed copies of these books, girl!! I'll tell you what, as often as you pop in on my blog giveaways, you are BOUND to win them all, no joke!

Have you seen a commenter by the name of Sherrinda around the blogs? She is a pastor's wife who won FIVE of my books ... yep, you heard it, and all because of what she jokingly refers to "cyber-stalking" the authors giveaways she is interested in. Nothing wrong with that AT ALL ... that's why we are doing the giveaways, after all.

And, man, we just HAVE to get your mom to read one of these books, girl!! :)

    Hugs,
    Julie

  28. Julie,

I am a new Christian and stumbled across on of your books a few weeks ago and it completely captured me. Passion Most Pure I read in less than a week and then rushed out to buy the next two. I am almost finished with Lizzie's story now.

There are no book clubs in my area nor do any of my friends read inspirational books.

I am sitting on edge waiting for Katie Rose's book now.

I am so glad I have found these books. They have been a big inspiration of mine and my families new journeys in to our new found faith.

  30. Hey LINDSEY ... yep, FIVE, but she ended up only taking three, I think, because there are only three so far, of course. :)

So it pays to "cyberstalk" the blog giveaways for sure. In fact, I do it myself and have won at least 6 books in the last year, no joke!

    Hugs,
    Julie

  35. Hey, SHERRI, thanks for dropping by to read the interview and leave a comment! I'm actually a little partial to this cover because it SO captures the sassy personality of Katie O'Connor, the spunky and sarcastic little sister who starts out as a precocious five-year-old in my first book, A Passion Most Pure.

    Good luck in the contest!

  36. Thanks, WENDY, and I think it would be cool, too, to go to a book club where the author spoke. All I know is that I went to a writer's conference once where the guest speaker was Francine Rivers, and it was BEYOND COOL!!! She is such a classy and humble lady whose book, Redeeming Love, is one of my favorites.

    Good luck in the contest.

  37. Don't enter me into the drawing since I've already read and enjoyed that book. I wanted to comment about this reader's comment:but I was a wee bit surprised at one reader who clearly put me on the defensive by stating that she did not think men were as sexual as I portrayed them.

Whoa!! What was that reader thinking??? Good-looking men can be very sexual!!

I think it's great that Julie connects with bookclub members.

  42. Hey, JANE, I never thought about how a shyer person like yourself might enjoy a speakerphone book club more than an in-person one since I am basically ... uh, NOT SHY at all, but it makes sense. You probably would like a Skype book club discussion even better because that allows YOU to see the author, but she doesn't have to see you if you don't want! I've done those, and they are fun for both the author AND the shy types like yourself! :)

Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the contest!
