THE FRED FACTOR

Do you know someone who always extends himself for others? Someone who takes his job seriously as a way to serve others and be a positive influence? Author and speaker Mark Sanborn knows someone like that – his mailman! Just after moving to a new house in Denver, Sanborn was taken aback by the friendliness and genuine interest of his mail carrier, Fred. Fred turned an ordinary job into an extraordinary means to build relationships and add value to people’s lives.

Sanborn was impressed and inspired to become more Fred-like himself. He saw the joy that came from being creative in doing your job exceptionally well and having a sincere concern for everyone you encounter. He began to talk about Fred in his motivational and leadership speeches across the country and realized he had found a touchstone with people. In a time when customer service seems to have gone the way of the 8 track tape, people are appreciative when they come across someone who goes the extra mile to be helpful. Sanborn integrated his experiences with Fred into a teaching curriculum for leaders, created a website (thefredfactor.com), and wrote The Fred Factor.

This small book is designed to inspire the reader to become a “Fred” and give direction on how to develop more “Freds” within your sphere of influence. Many of the principles come straight from Scripture. Sanborn does a great job of integrating personal stories with his outline for tangible ways to make your workplace or daily routine more extraordinary. And for the cherry on top, the book ends with a few words of advice from Fred himself. This is a great, fast read for everyone regardless of age, gender, or occupation.
