Margaret Daley is an award winning, multi-published author in the romance genre and is the volunteer officer for ACFW. While she has written for a number of secular publishers, Margaret felt compelled to follow her faith and passion to the Christian romance market, and currently writes inspirational romance and romantic suspense books for Steeple Hill's Love Inspired and Love Inspired Suspense series. She has authored 64 books to date, and enjoys mentoring aspiring authors through ACFW. Until her retirement last year, Margaret taught special needs students. As an active member of the outreach committee at her church, Margaret is involved in several community projects.
What do you like most about being an author?
Being able to make up stories and being paid to do it. As a child I used to make up stories with my dolls and paper dolls. I never thought of myself as a writer but a storyteller. I always thought I would be a teacher, which I did become, but I ended up teaching and writing. I was blessed to do two jobs I truly loved.
How does the cover process work for you? Did you have any say in picking out the cover for your books?
I fill out an Art Fact Sheet for Love Inspired. I suggest three scenes that could go on the cover. Some of the time they use my suggestions and some of the time they don’t. Most of my covers I have really liked. There have been a few I didn’t care that much for. I do know there are certain things that attract readers on the cover and Love Inspired art department knows its job.

Out of all the books you’ve written which ones are your favorite and why?
Heart of the Amazon is my favorite book because I had so much fun writing it—what you could call a book of the heart. It practically wrote itself. It happens sometimes that all I feel I am is the person inputting the story in the computer as the characters are telling me their story. I call it the book where the African Queen met Romancing the Stone.
I know that you have written and published many books, what genre do you like most to write?
My favorite genre to write is romantic suspense with a touch of mystery. I love different types of genres (to read and write), but I would always have a romance in my story.
I loved helping students learn and grow. I worked with students with special needs. They taught me so much. They were so accepting. I still keep in touch with some of the students I taught.
Can you tell me about two WOW—moments you’ve had since being published? What made it a wow for you?
Meeting a reader is always a wow moment and every time I sell a book is another wow moment. Even after selling seventy-five books, I am as excited as I was the first time.A little bit of me is in every book. It’s hard not to put my experiences and views into the book I write. But I’m keeping it a secret which parts are me and which aren’t.
QUESTIONS I JUST HAD TO ASK
1. If you could visit any place in the world where would you go and what would you do?
I would go back to Tahiti and lay on the beach.
2. If you could be apart of any two events in the history of the world which two would you pick.
At the resurrection of Jesus and when the first person walked on the moon
3. If you could hang out with any two people alive or dead in the history of the world, who would you pick and why? What would you do?
I would like to hang out with Jesus because it would be unbelievable to hear his parables and sermons in person. Another person I would like to hang out with would be Paul. He was amazing in his ministry—passionate, devoted to the Lord.
4. What T.V. shows were you most passionate as a kid? (You know the ones you couldn’t miss each week)
Star Trek—I am one of those trekkies.
Star Trek—I am one of those trekkies.
5. What THREE things would you not want to live without?
My computer, ice cream and books6. What THREE movies could you watch over and over again?
There are few movies I would watch more than once or twice—some I have are The Christmas Story, True Lies and Gone With the Wind.
