K. DAWN BYRD’S BIO: K. Dawn is an author of inspirational romance and romantic suspense. Mistaken Identity, her first young adult romance released on June 15 from Desert Breeze Publishing. Queen of Hearts, a WWII romantic suspense released in April 2010 and was the bestselling book for her publisher during its debut month. Killing Time, a contemporary romantic suspense, released August 1, also with Desert Breeze Publishing.

K. Dawn is an avid blogger and gives away several books per week on her blog at, most of which are signed by the authors. She's also the moderator of the popular facebook Christian Fiction Gathering group at!/group.php?gid=128209963444.

When not reading or writing, K. Dawn Byrd enjoys spending time with her husband of 16 years while walking their dogs beside a gorgeous lake near her home and plotting the next story waiting to be told.

1. How did you come up with the idea for Mistake in Idenity? Was that your original title for this book? If not, what was you working title?
I admire Christian teenagers who take a stand for God so much. Life isn't easy for them in today's world. The idea for Mistaken Identity novel came to me when I wondered what would happen if a Christian girl and her non-Christian best friend fell in love with the same guy, but didn't know it.

2 .What was your favorite scene to write in your book, Mistaken Identity? What was the hardest? Why?

My favorite scene was also the hardest to write. Eden, my Christian heroine, is a sweet young woman who tries her best to live for God. Lexi, her non-Christian best friend, can be difficult to say the least. Eventually, they find out that they're in love with the same guy. I had to keep things from getting really ugly between them because Lexi is very strong-willed and could be vicious.

3. Can you give us a sneak peek at what you have cooking up next? Can you tell us something about it? Do you have a release date?

I just signed a contract for a young adult mystery series. My heroine's name is Zoe Mack and she'll be a more mature Nancy Drew even though she's also a high school student. There will be more romance in these books than the typical Nancy Drew. The release dates are January, June, and December 2012.

4. Your most recent book was called the Queen of Hearts? How did you come up with the idea for that book?

I'm a WWII buff from way back and have always wanted to write a WWII novel. I came up with the idea of writing about a female spy and the story took shape from there.

5. Was it hard to jump into writing a young adult fiction story after writing Queen of Hearts? How did you prepare yourself to write to a different audience?

Writing young adult is such fun! That's why I decided to embark on the series. I prepare myself for writing young adult novels by reading them.

6. What do you hope young adults take away from your new book Mistake in Idenity? Why did you want to write to this age group?

This book is dedicated to Christian young women who strive to live for Christ and wonder at times if it's worth it all. Temptation seems to come from all sides and sometimes it's hard to make the right decision. May God bless you richly as you carry on.

7. Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? If not, how did you catch the writing bug?

I've always been an avid reader and wondered how hard it would be to write a novel. It's been so much fun that I just can't stop!

What THREE T.V. shows were you most passionate as a kid? (You know the ones you couldn’t miss each week)

Grizzly Adams because I love animals.
Scooby Doo was an after school ritual.
I Love Lucy because it made me laugh.

What three books were your favorite growing up?

The first book I remember was a picture book called Mop Top.
It's about a boy who refuses to cut his hair and when he hides behind a mop display in a store, a woman grabs his hair thinking it's a fuzzy mop.
Charlotte's Web, but it made me cry.
Anything and everything Nancy Drew.

What THREE things would you rather not live without?
My husband. He's my rock.
My BlackBerry.
My netbook.

What THREE movies could you watch over and over again?

The Aviator
How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days

If you had the opportunity to hang out with any two people in the history of the world—alive or dead; who would you pick and what would you do? (someone other than Jesus)
Mildred Wirt  Benson, who wrote many of the early Nancy Drew books.
Lisa Jackson because I love her suspense novels and would like to pick her brain.

A friend of yours has a time machine that they are letting you use. But you can only witness two events in this history of the world. What to events would you experience? Why?
V-J Day at Times Square because I'm a history buff.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  1. Wow! This book looks great! :) I also LOVE How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days!

  2. I Love Nancy Drew, I can't wait to read your next series!! :)

  3. I'm glad that there are books out there for teens that are 'clean' but fun. A lot of teens are into fantasy fiction. I would like to see authors that could fill this genre and capture more teen readers.

  4. I loved to watch Scooby Doo!!! First thing I did every day when I got home from school. A few years ago I had a '68 VW bus that was painted just like The Mystery Machine! We called it "Scooby Doo" :0)

I haven't read any young adult fiction but my 17 yr old son reads alot of it. From what I can tell, he seems to think the genre needs more mystery/suspense, geared more for guys than girls. So I would say more fiction for young men, but not paranormal stuff.

  7. I am not sure what I would like to see in young adult fiction. Thank you, K Dawn, for writing fiction that points young people to Christ. That was not available when I was young and reading all secular fiction gave me a secular view of right and wrong. I look forward to reading Queen of Hearts. Tisha

  8. YA with real characters, and that includes the "good" kids along with the "bad". Too many times the focus is on one or the other, forgetting what a mix those teens years are.

Thanks for the chance to win.

I loved Little House on the Prairie and Scooby Doo. I would like to see different paranormal creatures. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book.

  10. I've had some trouble posting. It seems blogger has gremlins. Thanks for your wonderful comments! It's a joy to travel down memory lane with Scooby Doo, Grizzly Adams, I Love Lucy, etc. That some reason is why I enjoyed writing Mistaken Identity so much. It took me back to high school. It was fun!

  11. Looks like a great book!

  12. I'd like to see more real life situations.
