2011 CHRISTY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED IN ATLANTA

ATLANTAThe 2011 Christy Awards presentation was held Monday evening, July 11, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta during the International Christian Retail Show. The banquet featured a keynote address by celebrated screenwriter and director Randall Wallace and was emceed by New York Times best-selling and Christy Award-winning author, Liz Curtis Higgs. Christian fiction fans not able to attend the event in person were able to participate via a live blog on the Christy Awards website. An archive of the event can be accessed online at www.ChristyAwards.com

The Christy Awards honor the best in Christian Fiction in nine categories. The Christy Awards Advisory Board is pleased to announce the following winners of the 2011 Christy Awards. A Big THANKS to Tyndale Publishers for allowing us the opportunity to attend the Award Ceremony as their guest!

Liz Curtis Higgs was the master of ceremony that night and she was hilarious! She kept things flowing and added comments that made us laugh. Not only is Liz a great speaker and writer of fiction and non-fiction she also is approachable and fun to talk with.

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE WINNER- SWORN TO PROTECT by DiAnn Mills
DiAnn Mills was such a delight to meet. She was so surprised that she won. She had won last year and thought someone else would win this event. Liz read what a judge said about the book and an announcer read a quote from the book. During a quote from the book DiAnn popped up and made her way to the front to accept her award! It was fun to watch her accept the award!

CONTEMPORARY SERIES WINNER - THE RELUCTANT PROPHET by Nancy Rue
Nancy Rue won her first award for Reluctant Prophet and then later on won another Christy Award for her youth fiction book MOTOR CYCLES, SUSHI, and ONE STRANGE BOOK. When she accepted the award for this book she had on a leather jacket over her short flattering flapper style dress. It was fun! I had never heard of her youth book. I'm definitely going to check it out. Finding Hope Book Club is reading The Reluctant Prophet next month. I'm excited to talk to Nancy about her awards and these books.

SUSPENSE WINNER - THE BISHOP by Steven James
It was fun to meet Steven James at the Christy's. Steven is holding the Christy Award and the medal given to him that night for his book Bishop.  He's excited about the award and his new book to hit shelves QUEEN!!

I'm too chicken to read Steven James's book but my husband, Fred has read them all. I've heard about them and have come to the conclusion. I was scared enough just hearing about the story, I can't imagine reading the details. He's a good writer who paints a vivid picture with words I'm just to chicken. Grin!

NOTE:  MORE pictures of the Christy Awards and the ICRS conference ahead in the next few days!! My husband and I had so much fun and were thrilled to meet so many people.

One of those special people is Jeanne Wynn! She and her husband Ty work together to make the Christy Awards Ceremony happen each year. They take pictures, work on the event is broad cast to bloggers and other news media! She has also helped me to read many books I normally wouldn't have.

THANKS Jeanne and Ty Wynn for all you do! It was an amazing night!!

More Christy Award pictures tomorrow!

HAPPY READING!!
