REVIEW: Susan is such a versatile author and I’m thankful for the review copy of a book that stole my heart. This author has written everything from suspense, to funny and light-hearted contemporary, and love-insipred books. When she writes, its not just like ‘reading a book’ you are actually there with the people she’s created. She’s such an amazing writer that writes in each of these genres well. It’s astounding! I can’t wrap my head around it.

Susan May Warren talents shine in Heiress, its a wonderful, heart breaking, suspenseful, hopeful read! The author talks about the time period, “This elite set the Carnegies, Astors, Vanderbilts, Rockerfellas, Rosevelts, and JP Morgans - ran our economy and adhered to a set of society rules that rivaled that of royal courts of England!”

The angle of the story evolved around exploring some questions like, “What if you could buy anything you wanted, at anytime? Would you be happy? Or is there something deeper about life that money cannot buy?”

Susan says this about the wealthy, “I believe the Vanderbilts and the others - like all of us were seaching for love. They simply didn’t realize you couldn’t buy it.”

It was intruiging to story. I felt as if I were in the inner circle of the very rich! Susan’s colorful characters grabbed my attention and my heart. They also made me appreciate the life I have. It helped me confirm my greatest pursuit in this life, which is the love of my heavenly father and again confirmed that without Gods love I can do nothing. The love He has for us is the real deal and satisfies like nothing else can. Susan’s characters find that out the hard way.

The main characters are twin sisters that have been patterened after the two brothers in the bible Jacob and Esau. These sisters were like night and day. Jinx thrived in social settings and couldn’t wait for her coming out party. Esme wanted didn’t want anything to do with that but wanted to be a journalist and find amazing stories that might make the front page of the paper!

Esme thinks this, “She doesn’t fit in this world. But she wasn’t sure, exactly, where (she did fit in) Where else might she belong? Who indeed was she supposed to be...” (she begs her mom to pursue a career) Esme’s mom replies, “A career? You will stop that thinking immediately. I don’t know where you got that from!”

This was a page turner. My heart hurt for these two sisters and their situation. Each sister had a different dream for their life and neither of them were willing to trust God to work out His plan for their lives. They thought they knew better than God. It reminded me of how Sarah ran ahead of God and had her husband, Abraham, sleep with her maid servant. And then she begot Ishmeal. All heck broke loose after that.

Things got crazy for the twins too, as these ladies ran ahead of God. Each tried to make their dreams come true. Unimaginable things happened and they definately got more than they bargained for! Neither realized how tough life could be! This is the first book in this series named Daugthers of Fortune. I highly, highly recommneed this book and anything Susan May Warren has written!

I had the pleasure to meet up with Susan May Warren at the Golden Scroll Awards Banquet in Atlanta this summer. It was a great delight. I loved hearing her talk about her books and this series. I couldn't wait to read it. She's one special lady!
