REVIEW: Make three months of homemade purees in three hours. This is a great way to start your little one out on whole real foods. The author states, “As a food professional who has previously worked for three different Fortune 500 food companies as a food scientist, I have seen firsthand what processed food truly is. What it is fresh, naturally nutrient-rich, naturally beautiful, flavorful, real food. When I had my first child, I immediately knew that homemade baby food-made from whole, real foods, with no additives or fillers – would be my baby’s food sources. 2005 my homemade baby food – making journey begin.”…”I have developed a wonderful efficient, flexible, comprehensive homemade baby food plan for you to implement at home. This plan includes every detail you need to create a well-balanced, diverse selection of whole food purees and freshly ground grains to feed your baby for you to three months.”

I appreciated this authors experience and the reasons a parent should want to make your own, better for your baby’s head start in life; a similar advantage breast feeding is. She has a system to help make feeding your baby easy on everyone.

The book starts with making it Ahead Strategies – 6 Steps.
1.    Select a Menu of Whole Foods
2.    Prepare a Shopping List
3.    Create Space
4.    Shop for Whole Foods
5.    Create a Mise en Place Plan
6.    Prepare Baby Food

“With this three month menu of meals, plus the handy flavor compatibility Guide and Tips on mix-ins, Build Amazing meals in a snap.” There is a section on Traveling and on-the-Go Meals.

There is a flavor compatibility guide – “use the flavor compatibility guide as a reference for combining whole foods for optimal flavor when building meals. – List general guide – helps you create your own combinations (four pages worth)” When and how tips.

This author has general information before you begin that has – “Food safety tips, timeline with all the milestones to keep in mind. Information screening for allergies – selecting and preparing foods – Storing Food- Thawing food – Choking – When feeding baby – Food intolerance – how to deal and look for.”

There are simple puree recipes under these categories– Fruit – Veggies – Legumes – Whole grains.

I liked the fact that this author takes parents to the next stage in your babies’ food adventure with a helpful and yummy looking section on “Finger foods – Advanced meals.”

Some of the recipes I might try soon (for my family) are: Banana Pancakes, Monkey Nutter Butter Toast, Squashed Mac-n-cheese, Chicken Dippers with Spinach Pesto, Chocolate Macaroon Birthday Cupcakes. Some of the Cereal and yogurt recipe at the end I wanted to try too!

I wish I would have had this information for my kids growing up but I’m thrilled it’s arrived in time for my grandchildren. This is a hard back book with many beautiful pictures sprinkled throughout. This system is all inclusive and this author makes it easy. This is a book you’ll be referring to often.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest opinion from Blogging for books.  All opinions expressed are my own.
