Based on a book by the same title by author Annalisa Daughety
ABOUT STORY: Emma Miller appears to be the most blessed girl in Indiana. She teaches school, enjoys the attention of a wonderful man and has a loving family. But this Amish girl has more on her mind than buggies and bonnets; she longs for adventure and wants to see the world.
Emma’s father tells her of an opportunity to spend the summer with relatives in Charm, Ohio, Emma jumps at the chance. In Charm, she meets an Englisher who has come to town to escape her chaotic life and despite their differences, the two become fast friends. Emma finds herself pulled between two worlds and her ultimate decision will impact not only herself but everyone she knows.
REVIEW: Emma loves her family but longs for adventure. She wants more color in her life. She is at a cross roads; it’s time for her to either join the church or go off in another direction. Her father catches her reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. It’s not the world she’s grown up in. She sees cars and airplanes and wants to get inside; let the wind blow her to the ocean or other beautiful places she’d like to see. She’s felt like an outsider in her own community. Her father understands and feels going to Charm will help her sort things out.
When she gets to Charm she meets Noah Weaver. He’s there to help out his cousin’s wife after his untimely death. He offers to show Emma around town but she tells him she can find her own way. When she discovers a wonderful library and meets an Englisher named Kelly Bennett. She has everything that Emma felt she wanted. She tells this to her Aunt who questions her friendship with Kelly. She tells Emma she is about to embrace trouble. Her Aunt doesn’t understand that she’s different. The farm and family aren’t enough. Noah understands her dilemma. He had been at the same cross roads too. He gives Emma room to find things out on her own.
Emma is interviewed by the wine, cheese and dinning editor. She notices that he is fudging on details. She calls him out on it and he says this will hurt no one but will help make it more interesting for people to read. She senses in her soul it’s not right. Many other things become clear as she starts to walk in the way of the world. Something happens where Emma is forced to make a choice. She sees soon enough what makes her happy, content and fulfilled. She realizes that she wants a best friend, someone that understands her and is the first one she wants to tell things to.
This film has a great cast. Danielle Churchran, Trevor Donovan, Drew Fuller and Tiffany Dupont. The story reminded me of the one’s I’ve seen on Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons, the enforced family values and a sense of community. The scenery and cinematography were breathe taking and beautiful! It made me want to make plans to visit that country side.
This is a story that talks about choices; a message we all can relate to. It’s about finding where you belong and being true to yourself. I really enjoyed this film. I can’t wait to see the rest on this series of Love Finds You films.
