A friend of yours has a time machine and they will let you use it for a while. Where would you go and what would you do?

Cheri: I always wanted to live in the “Little House on the Prairie” days - where families had lots of children running all over the place, you lived and worked all together, grew your own food, had canning parties, etc.  However, I really love indoor plumbing (even more than electricity) and I was a sickly baby so it’s a good thing I didn’t “live” during that era because I probably would have died.

If I went back, though, to visit, I would make sure and take my family and friends with me.  Because I don’t think I would enjoy it nearly enough without having my family and friends surrounding me - that would be the whole point of living during that time (or visiting).

Nora: I liked the Little House on the Prairie show. I’m with you on the indoor plumbing! I’d like to join you on your trip! It would be a blast!

Out of all the sounds in the world which are your favorite?

Cheri: So many to name.  The sound of my name when a loved one says it.  Also, “Mom and I love you” are music to my ears.  The sound of authentic laughter, a nice, gentle rain with the windows open as you are falling asleep, certain types of music, any kind of water (river, ocean, waterfall), or just nature in general.  I love nature and feel the closest to God when I’m in His backyard.

Nora: I like how you put this! Fun!

Would you rather speak every language in the world or play every instrument? Please explain.

Cheri: I LOVE music and can’t wait to enter Heaven and get to worship God in song for eternity, joined alongside people from every nation and tribe, all singing beautiful harmony together.  I can hardly fathom but can’t wait to hear all the different styles of music, some I probably haven’t even been introduced to yet.  Eternity won’t be long enough to enjoy it all.

However, having said that, I don’t necessarily have the desire to play - I love to sing and I attempted piano lessons and saxophone lessons briefly… very briefly.  So I guess I would have to say a chance to speak every language.  I love accents.  I think they’re beautiful and when I hear someone new speaking, I have a hard time concentrating on their words because I get lost in their beautiful accent.  So to be able to understand everyone from every language in the world would be incredible.

Nora: This was a tough one for sure. You explained your passion well.

If you could write yourself into a novel, which book would you choose and what would your character do?

Cheri: Not very many people know this about me (although you all do now because I talked about it above), but I would write myself into one of my fiction books.  I like having control and if I was writing the book, then I could control what my character did and didn’t do.  My character would definitely be married and have children in some capacity.  Showing the world the true definition of a Biblical marriage and family life is my deepest desire, both in real life and in fiction.  However, I think every author writes a little bit of him or herself into their novels.  That’s what makes the books so realistic and amazing to read.

Nora: Fun!

If you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you wake up tomorrow and do?

Cheri: If I knew I wouldn’t fail, I would give the dream of “knowing I wouldn’t fail at whatever I tried” to my husband.  He stepped out first, not knowing whether or not we would fail, but believing in “our” dream and “our” ministry, sacrificing a lot so that I could experience the joy of pursuing whatever journey this is that God has our family on.  It’s certainly not finished yet, and I’m still excited to see where God is leading us.

However, my husband has dreams of his own that he has put on hold for our family.  I would give him the chance to pursue his dreams, walking in confidence that they wouldn’t fail.  I believe down the road that God will interweave my husband’s dreams with mine, but until then, I’d gladly give him the chance to step out and fulfill his dreams, being his biggest supporter and greatest prayer warrior.

Nora: These are new questions I’ve started to ask in my interviews. You are one of the first to answer it. I loved your response. I really liked where you went with your answer. (I used the question from a wonderful book titled Come to the Family Table by Ted and Amy Cunningham. Great book on bring families together)

  1. THANKS for this giveaway and the opportunity to get to know you better. I found this book most encouraging. You had me look at applying the principles of Grace in a how new way. I know this will be encouraging to so many. It was for me!

  2. 1. If you knew you couldn't fail, what would you wake up tomorrow and do?

I'd ask others for donations of yarn so I could get others together to knit hats and scarves and mittens for those in need. Setting this up would take time and lots of people who enjoy knitting. Ultimate would be to keep people warm and happy In the winter months.

Can't wait to read the rest of the interview. Thanks for the chance,
    Julie

  3. 1. Use my new sewing machine to make quarter inch seams. I purchased it two Christmases ago and feel discouraged because it is so loud. I bought it online from a sewing shop in Georgia. We do not have a distributor nearby. Kathleen ~ Lane Hill House lanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net

  4. Thank you for this chance to know Cheri better. She is always so helpful with the book club chats and the books to review. In answer to question 3: I think that I would rather be able to play every instrument. Language is important but there have been times and situations when words are simply incapable of soothing a troubled or grieving soul. Music, however, can calm, restore and comfort and being able to play all instruments would give me the ability to appeal to all musical preferences.
    Happy New Year!

  5. 1. If you knew you couldn't fail, what would you wake up tomorrow and do?

I would do everything to be the richest person in the World and will open a website to ask for any request, not for themselves but to help someone else. Teaching people to be selfless and are only allowed to make a request to meet someone's needs.

  8. 3. Would you rather speak every language in the world or play every instrument? Please explain.
I would choose to play every instrument. I am one who music speaks to me. When I hear music my heart feels like it is in tune with it. I have played many instruments over the years and enjoy watching others feel the same as I do.

  10. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of your new book on grace. I've been thinking a lot about grace and how we need to be reminded more often about how to extend grace in situations every day. I've also been meditating on what it means to "grow in grace". I am a missionary. After 28 years I still cannot speak my second language as well as I wish I could. So I definitely would like to speak every language of the world. To think that I could share the love of God in any language with every person I met would thrill my soul. I would love to travel more and it would be so amazing to just be able to do ministry from the moment I arrived anywhere in the world. ktrim @ teamjapan.org

  13. I would choose to play an instrument rather than learn every language, because I would love to play an electric guitar and connect with individuals globally on a happy note with a happy song.

  20. I would wake up and take steps to further my walk with God. I know that I can always do that but some where inside of me I get scared and step back because I have never been one to really step out and take a chance. I know that God has a lot in store for me but though out the last 10 years the people I believe to be "spiritual role models" have told me I can't do it and so I have believed that. I want to change that.

  22. Thank you for allowing me to know Cheri better. She has always been so helpful during the chats and the reviews for books group. In answer to question 3: I would love to be able to play all instruments over being able to speak all languages. There are times when words are incapable of conveying what you want to express but music has a way of giving comfort, encouragement or just expressing joy.
