I'll just list some of my thoughts:

1) I don't know the meaning behind the prayer caps, but Cindy said they meant more to the Amish than our wedding bands.

2) The fact that Cindy has earned the trust of the Amish community and has friends who read the manuscripts before they go to print makes them seem more realistic.

3) When Cindy talked about the school shooting where five Amish girls were killed and that the community was willing to forgive the shooter from the beginning, this quote really got to me: "They believed that God's power to redeem their tomorrow is greater than anything they could get by holding onto unforgiveness today."

4) These were two trivia facts that I didn't know about the men: a) They wear suspenders because a belt buckle would be considered too garish, and b) they grow beards when they marry because even a wedding ring would be considered austentatious.

I enjoyed the interview and also your review, Nora. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of The Hope of Refuge.

cjarvis [at] bellsouth [dot] netCarolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02691366747122379190noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6979453812706020935.post-80058472479279344342009-08-04T09:46:38.070-04:002009-08-04T09:46:38.070-04:00The interview was great. I missed it when it was first on. It was very enlightening to know Cindy has first-hand knowledge of the Amish life. That makes me want to read her books even more. I enjoy the Amish books because they are a simple lifestyle, but there is a deep commitment in their lives that I love to read about.
